It feels like fate.
Or maybe I should say coincidence.
About 3 weeks ago, I approached my girlfriend with the idea of taking a road trip across the west coast of Canada and the United States this coming June. I came up with the idea because I am already going to be in Portland, Oregon for the World Domination Summit hosted by Chris Guillebeau. I also came up with the idea because my girlfriend Karla, who just moved here from Mexico City, and has never been to the United States. She also wants to fulfill her childhood dream of visiting Disneyland.
Please vote for us before April 29th so Karla can see the U.S.A for the first time!
My memories of the west coast are nothing but happiness and beauty from when my cousin and I rented a mustang and drove from Palm Spring to San Francisco. Although it was amazing, we missed many places that I would still love to see. Since I’m already going to be in Portland for my first time, I thought it would be a great opportunity to continue on down south. The plan would be to drive from Calgary through the Canadian Rockies into Vancouver before traveling down south through Seattle and ending up in Portland. After sky diving Portland and jumping off a bridge (which I organized for the people attending WDS), we would then continue down through San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Anaheim (Disneyland), and then make our way back through Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Yellowstone National Park, Montana, and back home.
Sounds amazing right? Totally it does. Just one problem; Money!
Although Karla has a U.S visa, worked in the marketing department for Johnson & Johnson, and has a marketing degree from a high ranking university in Mexico City, she still can’t work in Canada because she just moved here and currently has a visitor visa. Were working on getting her a work visa or temporary citizenship but it’s a very time consuming process. This is why I know she has an adventurous soul. She left a great life, a great job, and her loving family and friends behind to move to Canada to be with me. For an adventure that would likely not be around as she got older.
So as we continued to brainstorm ideas to make this road trip of a lifetime happen, my buddy Matt Koenig (from 1 Year Sabbatical) told me I should check out BlogCastFM. He told me it was a great site that I would enjoy. I followed his advice, checked it out, and low and behold, the first interview that popped up was with Lauren Rains of themadtolive.com who is part of this ultimate road trip being sponsored by Fox Rent A Car.
I was intrigued. I followed that link and wound up at the site for this Ultimate road trip where Fox Rent A Car was holding a contest to find 2 bloggers who would join 2 other remarkable bloggers (Lauren Rains and Matthew Kimberley) on a 16 day road trip to visit 6 cities on the west coast.
Whhhhhhhhat? Is this fate? Just one big coincidence?
The road trip will take 4 people through San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City. Sound familiar?
At first I thought, this is to good to be true. Then I noticed that it started June 7th, 2 days after the World Domination Summit ends. Wow, this must me meant to be.
To enter the contest, I needed to make a 1 minute video and tell them why I should be chosen. I promptly started coming up with ideas since mine had to be different as it involved 2 people; my girlfriend and I.
This couldn’t have come at a better time. Not only have I been looking into starting a video “show” documenting my travels, but it would be a great opportunity for Karla to see the United States for the first time. And Disneyland of course.
I think it’s also beneficial for Fox Rent A Car to choose us because:
- I blog about travel, adventure, and envisioning a life of endless possibilities.
- They would have the perspective of an active traveler (me) and the perspective from someone who is completely fresh to travel and the United States.
- They would have representation from all of North America. Myself from Canada, Karla from Mexico, and 2 others from the U.S.A.
- They could have representation in english and in spanish.
- People who are willing to do crazy things like skydive, bungy jump, and anything else that pushes our boundaries.
- 2 exciting, adventurous, outgoing, and fun personalities.
As you can tell, I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this awesome contest and now I need to ask you for a favor. Can you please follow the link below and vote for us (by clicking the thumbs up). It would really mean a lot to me and will give me many things to write about in the following months. It would also mean a lot to Karla who would get to shake hands with Mickey Mouse and see the beauty that is the west coast of the United States.
Thanks you all so much. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
