LL013: An Interview with Scott Brills

by Matt 2 Comments

In the thirteenth episode of the Live Limitless podcast I chat with Scott Brills of ScottBrills.com.

I met Scott for the first time at World Domination Summit through a mutual friend and have since spent a week with him in the deserts of Nevada for Burning Man. As an avid traveller myself, I loved listening to all the adventures Scott has packed into his life and as an entrepreneur I was interested in how he funded everything.

After being accepted in a year-long work/study program in Japan straight out of high school, Scott’s thirst for travel began. Not to long after that, Scott started a web design company, which funded his incredible lifestyle for ten years.  While he still does consulting for tech companies, his main focus is building up Pamoja Safaris; a new company he co-founded with a partner in Tanzania, Africa.

In this episode, we talk about:
  • How Scott has supported his travelling lifestyle for the last 10 years
  • Scotts new safari company in Tanzania, Africa
  • Scotts incredible rickshaw race coming up soon
  • Attending conferences and how to connect with people
  • World Domination Summit and not approaching people as a fan
  • His favourite books and plans for SE Asia travel
  • Scotts advice for living limitless
  • And MUCH more…

Who Said You Couldn’t Become a Married Digital Nomad with a Baby | An Interview with Brad Hussey

by Matt 2 Comments

I met Brad for a coffee after exchanging emails a few times. He was living just two hours south of myself and had been reading this blog when it was called A World of Inspiration. Brad is a web designer who became a minimalist and now travels all over the place with his laptop, his wife and his newborn baby.

There are a lot of people who think a baby (and marriage for that matter) are a hindrance to the nomadic lifestyle but Brad is proving them wrong. While the challenges are certainly greater, Brad is a great example of what’s possible when you make your dreams a priority. In this case, Brad and his wife want to see the world and not be chained down to one location. They became minimalists and got rid of most of their stuff, took their jobs on the road and are now living in Newfoundland for the next year.

Meet Brad.

Brad, you recently had a baby girl. How’s the adventure going?

It’s been a totally transforming experience. I never knew, nor expected, what it would be like to have a child. In my experience so far, I’ve realized how much having a child puts your entire existence on this earth into perspective. You have less time to worry about stupid things, because there is somebody, here and now, who needs your immediate attention. I like saying that having a child makes every day an unpredictable adventure — and there’s something exciting about that to me.

LL 011: An Interview with Quinn & Jonathan from Life Out of the Box

by Matt 1 Comment

In the eleventh episode of the Live Limitless podcast I chat with Quinn Vandenberg and Jonathan Button from Life Out of the Box.

Quinn and Jonathan are a young couple from the United States who decided they wanted to do something remarkable with their lives. Leaving their jobs and homes behind, Quinn and Jonathan set out to live their dreams of becoming entrepreneurs, traveling to developing countries and being able to make a difference in the world. They now live in Nicaragua where they are able to find and sell beautiful local hand-crafted bracelets while donating a portion of the profits to purchasing school supplies for children in need. They are a great example of two people who decided to live limitless while helping others along the way.

In this episode, we talk about:
  • What they were doing before moving to Nicaragua
  • What made them want to give up their home and move to Central America
  • What steps they took to start their business
  • What steps they took to market their business
  • Why they chose to give back to the community by supplying children with school supplies
  • Whether their “future dreams” have changed since leaving the USA
  • The change in mindset after living in a developing country
  • And MUCH more…

LL 004: Interview with Wandering Earl

by Matt 5 Comments

In the fourth episode of the Live Limitless podcast I chat with Derek Earl Baron, who is also known as Wandering Earl.

Earl Baron is the man behind the incredible blog wanderingearl.com, where he inspires people to travel around the world. Earl has been “wandering” around the world for more than 13 years straight! Yup, more than 4000 days. He started off by working on cruise ships but has since become an entrepreneur by creating digital guides and now, thanks to his huge loving audience, personalized tours across Mexico, India, and other great locations around the world.

I’ve known Earl since I first started blogging three years ago. I haven’t met him in person yet but he has been one of the most helpful and all-around awesome guys I have met. His stories are sure to inspire some wanderlust in you and this interview will do the same.

Don’t Look For Paradise – Look For People

by Matt 1 Comment

Not just people – friends, relationships, and connections.

Robin Esrock, a travel writer (to say the least) inspired me recently in a talk he gave at TED. It resonated with me so much because I knew exactly what he was talking about.

Paradise is people.

In the last three years, I have traveled all over the world. I’ve experienced road trips throughout 13 U.S. states, spent three months in Mexico City, enjoyed five months in Australia and backpacked across New Zealand, Japan, China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Borneo, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Burma.

Some of these places had “paradise” written all over them. The kind of paradise we think of when we see a picture with blue skies and turquoise waters. Places like the Perhentian Islands of Malaysia, almost every island in the Phillies, most of Indonesia, and beautiful southern Thailand.

But as beautiful as these places were (and I strongly recommend visiting “paradise” now and then,) they don’t compete with the beauty of friendship and connection I made on these trips.

I partied with Mexicans in Malaysia, joined a group of travellers in Flores, Indonesia and crashed a traditional Indonesian wedding that was powered by generators, and met a really cool eclectic group of Europeans who teamed up with us to hike into minority villages in Myanmar.

Those were the times I enjoyed and learned the most from.

Connecting.

Friends in Flores, Indonesia

Paradise is beautiful; sure, it makes your heart sing.

But you hit a higher note when you share the experience with good people.

On your next travels (or maybe even at home), focus less on seeing everything or finding the next beautiful spot and more on meeting the next awesome person.

Strike up conversations with locals. You’d be amazed how friendly the world is. You can learn so much by talking with people from different walks of life. This is what life-changing travel is all about. It’s what every trip should consist of. Travel is one of the best forms of education and inspiration available today.

Find good people and you’ll find paradise.

A new vision for the blog & an interview with Matt Koenig of Matt Koenig photography

by Matt 5 Comments

As for the vision for the blog, I have decided to focus more on what I am good at: Adventure and trying new things. After talking to many people about my passions and things I have already accomplished, I have been told that turning myself from a shy conserved person into a thrill seeking, world traveling, throw myself into uncomfortable situations kind of person is what interests people the most. They also ask me how I did it which made me realize other people like me are out there and looking for help to get more adventure into their lives. That’s where I come in and that’s where A World of Inspiration comes in. I changed the “About” section to reflect this. I hope you all still enjoy it and follow me. The type of posts will still be inspirational and won’t differ to much from what they have been.

So on we go!

A few months ago, I came across a site called www.mattkoenigphotography.com. After contacting him, I found out that he is working a work time job but trying to turn his passion for photography into a full-time business. Matt has some great values and I love that he is trying to make a go out of his passion rather than conforming to daily job routine. He also has a wife and kids which makes it even more challenging. That’s what life is about though. Challenging yourselves to constantly improve your situation whether increasing cash flow, quality of life, or anything else you feel needs to be improved.

Matt and I did an interview about his quest for a location independent lifestyle developed around his passion. Check it out! [Read more…] about A new vision for the blog & an interview with Matt Koenig of Matt Koenig photography
