The Ultimate Guide to Nepal

Any normal person would have given up. It was like the universe was telling me not to go. Not only had Nepal experienced a devastating earthquake a few months prior but it was now dealing with a fuel crisis, which was causing heaps of problems for both locals and foreigners.

We were actually in Istanbul, Turkey (Sept 2015), and it didn’t look like our plan for Nepal was going to work out. We had approximately two months before returning home and our initial plan was to visit Nepal for three weeks followed by one month in India. After all, both my wife and I had always wanted to see Nepal and during this crisis, the people could use the tourism dollars more than ever. Deep in the forests of central Mexico’s mountains, a natural phenomenon takes place each and every winter. The forests become absolutely smothered in colourful monarch butterflies that have migrated all the way from Canada.

Experiencing Amazonian Beauty at Madidi Jungle Lodge

The ants go marching one by one hurrah hurrah, the little one stops to scratch his bum hurrah hurrah….

That’s the song I hummed to myself as I watched thousands of leaf-cutter ants march their way to their nest with pieces of leaves on their backs. It was equally cute and impressive to see these tiny creatures marching side-by-side all over the place. Millions of them! Of course, this was just a small part of Madidi National Park, a slice of jungle heaven in the Bolivian Amazon.

There’s something peaceful about going to sleep in a candle-lit room with nothing but jungle sounds to sooth you to slumber. One night while my wife and I sat reading at an outdoor table, we saw monkeys jumping from tree to tree under the moonlight. It was magical.
