LL 024: Exploring Nature and Instagram with Dax Justin

by Matt Leave a Comment

In the 24th episode of the Live Limitless podcast, I chat with Dax Justin of Daxjustin.com.

Dax Justin

“Nature is absolutely meditative to me”.

Dax is an explorer and landscape/adventure photographer based in Calgary, Alberta. Dax specializes in capturing the essence of landscapes and the soul of adventure through displaying moments rooted in passion, culture, and emotion.

I met Dax though a friend of ours and as an avid adventurer and photographer myself, I was inspired by how Dax got to where he is and how he likes to dig deep into an area, to discover stories that are untold.

The thing is, Dax was never a photographer. He was a designer and creative director addicted to the city life. Then one day, he woke up and something came over him. Out of nowhere, he threw on some old clothes, drove near the Rocky Mountains, and just went for a walk into the forest. From that moment on, he fell in love with nature and began sharing photos of his experience on Instagram. One thing lead to another and eventually he was featured as a suggested user, giving him thousands of new followers and a platform for exploring the outdoors in a way he never thought possible.

How Bali Changed My Life

by Matt 4 Comments

Mount Batur Bali
Bali’s Volcano…

Back in 2009, I did something that I had been promising myself for many years. I embarked on my first long-term trip to New Zealand and Australia. For five whole months, I explored two new countries and challenged myself in ways I never imagined. I jumped out of an airplane, bungy-jumped off of the Auckland bridge, abseiled into caves, climbed a volcano, hang-glided over the sea, witnessed the twelve apostles, and scuba dived with sharks at night. Reading this makes me seem like some sort of adventure junkie, but I actually wasn’t…at the time. Sure I had slowly been exploring life’s possibilities and trying new things like white water rafting in the Canadian Rockies and riding as many roller coasters as I could, but still, I was a relatively shy guy who wasn’t really into adrenaline sports or thrill-seeking.

When I first landed in New Zealand however, I felt like a new person. I had this new zest for life. I had this incredible adventure ahead of me and I was free to do with it as I pleased. It was only 7 AM when I pulled up to my Queenstown hostel after an early flight from Canada when I noticed an advertisement for sky-diving. I figured “what the hell?”, and immediately signed up. Less than 30-hours after landing in a new country, I was up in a small plane, getting ready to jump out at 15,000 feet. [Read more…] about How Bali Changed My Life

The Ultimate Guide to Nepal

Any normal person would have given up. It was like the universe was telling me not to go. Not only had Nepal experienced a devastating earthquake a few months prior but it was now dealing with a fuel crisis, which was causing heaps of problems for both locals and foreigners.

We were actually in Istanbul, Turkey (Sept 2015), and it didn’t look like our plan for Nepal was going to work out. We had approximately two months before returning home and our initial plan was to visit Nepal for three weeks followed by one month in India. After all, both my wife and I had always wanted to see Nepal and during this crisis, the people could use the tourism dollars more than ever. After all, tourism was down by close to 80% thanks to the problems mentioned above. [Read more…] about Why Now is a Great Time to Visit Nepal

The Ultimate Guide for Things to Do in Palau

by Matt Leave a Comment

Things to Do in Palau

From the moment I learned about a lake full of stinger-less Jellyfish, Palau became a dream trip I had to make happen. Nestled next to Micronesia, Palau is the epitome of tropical paradise. Glistening turquoise waters give rise to stunning rock islands covered in a luscious green jungle. If you’ve always dreamed of visiting a tropical paradise and love scuba diving, Palau should be high on your list.

My wife and I had just one week in Palau, which went very fast. Most of our days were spent scuba diving the incredible reefs but we also took a couple of days to go kayaking and to just relax on the beach.

If you’re planning to add Palau to your dream list, this guide should give you a good idea of what to expect and what to do. [Read more…] about The Ultimate Guide for Things to Do in Palau

by Matt Leave a Comment

In the 22nd episode of the Live Limitless podcast, I chat with Derek Murphy of creativeindie.com.

Derek Murphy Creative Indie I met Derek in a Facebook group for Kindle authors after he volunteered to create a cool marketing image of my book Limitless Travel. Derek is a philosophy major turned book designer and writer with a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. He launched CreativeIndie.com to help authors and artists turn their passions into full-time businesses. Derek is also a digital nomad who often lives and writes in the locations of his fictional stories. As we recorded this podcast, he was staying in a castle. Although Derek teaches writers how to build profitable businesses from their work, he also writes and publishes young adult novels at UrbanEpics.com.
