LL 022: Self-Publishing and Living in Castles with Derek Murphy

In the 22nd episode of the Live Limitless podcast, I chat with Derek Murphy of creativeindie.com.

I met Derek in a Facebook group for Kindle authors after he volunteered to create a cool marketing image of my book Limitless Travel. Derek is a philosophy major turned book designer and writer with a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. He launched CreativeIndie.com to help authors and artists turn their passions into full-time businesses. Derek is also a digital nomad who often lives and writes in the locations of his fictional stories. As we recorded this podcast, he was staying in a castle. Although Derek teaches writers how to build profitable businesses from their work, he also writes and publishes young adult novels at UrbanEpics.com.

Derek also has a goal of buying a castle in the future to host writing workshops of his own.

LL 021: Heroic Fatherhood with Charlie King

In the 21st episode of the Live Limitless podcast, I chat with Charlie King of heroicfatherhood.com.

Charlie has just two goals; Supporting fathers to become the man they’ve always wanted to be and to create a generation of kids that are raised by fathers that they deserve. Charlie is the founder of Heroic Fatherhood, a platform where he supports entrepreneur fathers master fatherhood. Through individual coaching and workshops, he helps to create structures, insights, and to provide support to handle all the shifts that fatherhood brings. As Charlie mentions in his site, “Fellow Heroic Fathers generate resilience, self-confidence, flexibility, and openness. Holding your family securely but loosely allows freedom, confidence, and partnership.”

I met Charlie through the World Domination Summit and as someone who is thinking of starting a family soon, I wanted to reach out and ask some questions. As someone who isn’t living a conventional life, I have so many concerns about becoming a father. What sort of education should I give to my kids? Should I homeschool them? Is putting them into pre-school at a young age good for their health and/or our family relationship?

I have so many questions and I bet you do as well. If you’re a father or thinking of becoming one, this is a great podcast to listen to.

LL 020: Turning a Passion into a Business with Sam Hunter

In the 20th episode of the Live Limitless podcast, I chat with Sam Hunter of www.huntersdesignstudio.com.

Sam went from a 25-year career in IT to a full-time quilt pattern designer, fibre artist, and entrepreneur. Ever since she was a child (she started sewing at the age of 7 and quilting at the age of 20), Sam wanted to be an artist but peer pressure encouraged her to choose a more “stable” career, which is what brought her to graduating with a degree in electric engineering. Although Sam certainly doesn’t regret her IT experience (as a single mother, it paid the bills), she still longed for the life of an artist. Then, at the humble age of 40, she went back to school and earned a BA in sculpture and an MFA in fibre arts.

But it didn’t stop there. After talking with many beginning quilters, she learned that all of the beginner patterns were basic and boring. Sam then found her niche by designing patterns that looked complicated but weren’t that difficult for a beginner to emulate. In her first three years, she sold 15,000 patterns and hasn’t looked back.

In addition to her success as an artist, Sam also created We Are $ew Worth It, a worldwide movement and philosophy for quilters and artists. The mission of WASWI is to champion claiming our worth as makers and to educate our customers about the value of what we create.

There’s a lot of gems in this episode.

Tom Morkes is the CEO of Insurgent Publishing, a book publishing and marketing company that brings unconventional nonfiction to the creative outliers of the world. Tom helps people publish and launch books as well as digital courses and products.

This is a special “workshop” episode. It’s slightly different because instead of a common interview, we turn it into a live case study of sorts. Since I’m going to be re-launching a new version of my bestselling book Limitless Travel, Tom helps me develop a marketing and launch plan for it. LL 018: Jennifer Underwood – Just Say Hello

In the 18th episode of the Live Limitless podcast I chat with Jennifer Underwood of www.justsayhellotour.com.

I was introduced to Jennifer through the World Domination Summit. After quitting her stressful job as a social worker, Jennifer started a business on Amazon utilizing what’s referred to as retail arbitrage and calculated gambling. In other words, she buys things and sells them through Amazon. However, most of our talk revolved around her latest project: the Just Say Hello Tour.

Jennifer sold everything she owned and hit the road in a camper van with her 8-year old daughter to break down the stigma associated with homelessness. The Just Say Hello Tour is an advocacy project created to record and share the stories of those who are homeless in hopes of inspiring people to challenge their misconceptions and judgments of homelessness and to “Just Say Hello” to those on the streets of their communities.

LL 017: Brad Hussey – Family and Freedom Through Freelancing

In the 17th episode of the Live Limitless podcast I chat with Brad Hussey of Bradhussey.ca.

I met Brad at a bookstore after he reached out to me for Canadian travel hacking advice. Actually, Brad is the guy that helped design CanadianFreeFlyers.com. Brad has taken his coding skills to a new level, creating an online business teaching others how to code and how to start a freelance business. He does all of this while maintaining a family (he has a wife and two kids) and living in Canada.

Besides being an all-around great guy, what Brad has accomplished is quite impressive. Over 200,000 students have taken Brad’s Udemy courses and he has established himself as an authority in his field. You can find him at Bradhussey.ca.
